Can I ask for a severance if my company wants me to sign a release of claims document?

Situation : I worked for a US based company. I was terminated without cause or reason. My company gave me 1 month pay in lieu of my notice period but they have not offered me any severance pay. Now they are requesting me to sign a Release of Claims document which I am absolutely NOT going to sign. I have refused outright. MY QUESTION IS - can my company get into any trouble during their annual audit process if my Release of Claims document is found unsigned? Can I get them to pay me severance in exchange for my signature on the Release of Claims Document? They have not offered me a severance, they're just requesting me to sign the release of claims document. Excerpt from my offer letter - The terms and conditions of your employment will be governed by and constructed in accordance with the laws of India Thanks!
